The French defender just wants to win silverware and qualify for the Champions League, that's not much to ask for, is it...?
It has certainly been a year of two halves for Liverpool. They started the calendar year in thumping form, charging toward a potential first Premier League title before small mistakes at the end of the season cost them.
In the end they finished in second place behind Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title. They then saw Luis Suarez leave for Barcelona in the summer while Daniel Sturridge has struggled with injury problems for most of the season so far. With their firepower dissipated they have struggled to put together a good run of results throughout most of the season and a title hunt seems out of the question.
They have also been dumped out of the Champions League by Real Madrid and FC Basel - undoing the good work they did last season to make their way back into the competition.
However a decent run of results in recent weeks sees optimism high as Liverpool go into the new year. The form of players such as Adam Lallana, Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho also gives the fans plenty of reason to be excited.
One player who is certainly feeling up for the new year is French international defender Mamadou Sakho. The star has recently found himself back in the Liverpool starting XI and is a popular figure among the Anfield faithful.
Now he has made his hopes for the remainder of the 2014-15 campaign clear, telling the official Liverpool website:
"I hope we will play even better and we can win a competition, and qualify for the Champions League.
"We have got lots of big players and lots of young players. We have to focus on those objectives."
At the moment Liverpool fans might just take that.
