Here we take a look at the deals that could go through for Manchester United early in 2015.
Kevin Strootman to arrive
AS Roma have made it very clear they have no intention of selling Kevin Strootman this winter, so why on earth has he made this list?
Quite simply he is the missing piece of Louis van Gaal’s jigsaw and there is absolutely no doubt Manchester United’s manager will do everything in his power to bring one of his favourite players to England.
Rarely has a potential transfer been so obvious, and while it may prove impossible to sign him now, expect United to make a sizeable bid just in case, with Strootman’s stance likely to tip the balance one way or the other.
Nick Powell back out on loan
This was supposed to be the season when Nick Powell showed what he could do in the top flight but things did not go according to plan following his loan move to Leicester City.
The attacking midfielder shone in the Championship for Wigan Athletic but the step up has proved too much – at least for now – and it has been suggested he will spend the second half of the campaign at either Middlesbrough or Bolton Wanderers.
Anderson to leave
Let’s face it, Anderson’s time at United is coming to an end; some would even argue it ended long ago.
The 26-year-old Brazilian’s current contract expires in the summer and it would be no surprise if he headed out of the club in the next few days – either on loan or permanently.
He arrived with a huge reputation but will depart having become a fan favourite for his demeanour but having only sporadically looked like the player Sir Alex Ferguson believed he was signing.
Darren Fletcher’s temporary farewell
When he was named vice-captain at the start of the season, it seemed this campaign would be a big one for Darren Fletcher. But he has now dropped to third in command and has been used sparingly for the majority of the time.
A loan move to a side where he can play regularly is the most likely option.
