Midfielder Marco van Ginkel is reportedly heading back to Chelsea early from his loan spell at AC Milan.

Italian website TMW has picked up on claims from Tuttosport that the 22-year-old central midfielder – who has only made two Serie A appearances in a campaign blighted by injury – will be heading back to Stamford Bridge after sustaining a ligament injury.

It remains to be seen how long the Dutch player will be out for but it seems his time in Italy is coming to a close.

In other news, the Times reports that Chelsea are keeping an eye on Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony.

The report claims that while Manchester City are said to be preparing a bid of at least £20million for the Ivorian, Chelsea could yet make a move of their own.

The story is a strange one given the striking options currently available at Stamford Bridge but with Didier Drogba approaching the end of his career it may be a canny long-term step.
