Tottenham Hotspur are said to be very confident of completing a deal for Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph.
The Lilywhites have been linked with the likes of Southampton's Jay Rodriguez, West Bromwich Albion's Saido Berahino and Espanyol's Hector Moreno in recent times, but Delph is apparently the transfer they are most assured they will complete.
The England international is out of contract in the summer, meaning Villa may be forced to cash-in on him or risk losing him on a free, and Spurs may be hoping to take advantage of this situation.
The energetic midfielder looks perfectly suited to Mauricio Pochettino's favoured style of play - which demands his team presses high and plays at a high tempo - and he seems to have become a top target for the club.
Villa are understood to be desperate to keep hold of Delph as he remains one of their brightest talents, but his reluctance to sign a new deal means they are in a quandary.
Losing someone of Delph's stature without receiving any monetary compensation would be a huge blow for the club and, therefore, accepting a bid in January may be their only option.
Reports suggest that Spurs believe Villa will sell should a sizeable bid come in for the 25-year-old and they are said to be plotting to lodge an offer that the Midlands side will have to agree to.
Delph has played 12 games for Villa this season and earned his first international caps for England after an impressive run of form.
