Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will ridicule players

Metal Gear Solid V Chicken Hat

Players can wear a chicken hat during the game to make it an easier ride.

Christmas isn't a national holiday in Japan, so on Christmas Day last week Mr Hideo Kojima himself broadcast a livestream called Kojima Station.

Kotaku reports that this stream wasn't really hyped, but fans tuned in anyway in the hope that some Metal Gear Solid V footage or announcements would be seen and heard.

After almost 3 hours of the broadcast, in which Kojima spoke about movies and opened presents, he finally showed something of Metal Gear Solid V - a chicken hat.

The hat in question is first shown on Snake at around the 2:44:54 mark.

Take a look at the reveal below.

Whilst some viewers saw this reveal as Kojima trolling them, the chicken hat does serve a purpose in the game, it's not purely aesthetic. If you die or get caught in the game too many times, it will ask you "would you like to use a chicken cap? Yes or no?"

Saying yes to the chicken cap will give you an easier ride in the game - enemies will react more slowly to you, and won't be able to notice you as quickly as usual. The chicken hat can also glow in the dark.

So, you have an option - keep dying through the tougher sections, and hopefully you might crack it and make it through, or opt to wear a ridiculous chicken hat and make things easier for yourself at the same time.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is due for release in 2015 for PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
