Louis van Gaal’s presence at Manchester United could work in their favour as they reportedly chase down another top transfer target.
Memphis Depay starred for Holland and the 2014 World Cup finals under the careful guidance of the man now in charge at Old Trafford.
Depay is expected to see out the campaign at PSV Eindhoven, but interest in his services will build steadily to that point and eventually result in a big-money move.
Tottenham Hotspur were keen on taking him on the back of his efforts in Brazil, but they were unable to get a deal over the line.
That has left the door open to United, but they have been warned that a top-four finish will be required in order to open transfer talks.
Depay told Voetbal International: "Maybe I'll will play in the Champions League next season with PSV, maybe it will be with another beautiful club. I'm not planning anything. I just want to keep taking steps in my career."
Reports suggest that a fee of around £18 million would be enough to land the talented youngster.
United would have no problem funding such a deal, but they will have to match Depay’s ambition on the field.
He is a player being tipped to reach the very top and in order to get there he knows he has to be playing for the best and against the best, a stage only the Champions League can offer.
