Newcastle United have been linked with Anderlecht striker Aleksandar Mitrovic for quite some time now, with the Magpies seemingly seeking additional fire-power to supplement the development of Ayoze Perez.
But for those Magpies fans eager to see the 20-year-old arrive at St James’ Park they may have to face up to some disappointment following recent comments from both the player and his representative.
Newcastle are said to be tracking the £12million-rated player who has scored 53 goals in his career to date – a fine record for a player who is still only 20.
Mitrovic has 28 goals in 64 games for the Belgian side (having previously netted 18 times for Partizan Belgrade and seven times for FK Teleoptik) but despite being linked with a number of clubs across Europe he may not be going anywhere just yet.
Portuguese newspaper O Jogo is paying attention to the story given Benfica’s alleged interest, and it has claimed the player’s agent has ruled out a winter move while publishing comments from Mitrovic himself.
“There is talk of Benfica’s interest, along with Newcastle United and Borussia Monchengladbach, but I do not know anything.
“I have four more years on my contract and I am happy here.”
That is great news for Anderlecht but less so for those seeking to bring him to their club.
