Tottenham Hotspur have made a bid for Ezequiel Ponce.
Tottenham have made an offer for Ezequiel Ponce, the Argentine's club have confirmed.
Newell's Old Boys club president Guillermo Lorente told a press conference, reported by Tuttomercatoweb, that they were considering offers for the highly rated prospect.
The 17-year-old forward has broken into their first team already and has been likened to Gabriel Batistuta, but there is serious competition from Italian side Roma.
Lorente said: "The family has received many informal offers informal. At present we are negotiating in agreement with his father, the proposal from the Roma could bring some advantage compared to that of Tottenham.
"In Rome there would be a distinct possibility that Ezequiel play another year at Newell's, while going to Tottenham would be (only for) another six months. But there are many things to consider, of course we will decide by mutual agreement. In my opinion both offers are valid, although I think that of the Roma is slightly better."
Reports in Italy have in recent days suggested Roma are Ponce's preferred option, but Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino used to play for his current club Newell's and may fancy his chances at being able to tempt his countryman to England.
