West Ham United 1-2 Arsenal: Gunners pick up three points

Upton Park

Arsenal have defeated West Ham United 2-1 at the Boleyn Ground in the Premier League.

Cheikhou Kouyate and Andy Carroll came close for West Ham inside the first 25 minutes, but it was Arsenal who took the lead.

Winston Reid brought down Santi Cazorla inside the Hammers’ penalty box on 40 minutes, and the Spain international midfielder himself stepped up to shot home the spot kick.

Danny Welbeck doubled the Gunners’ lead on the stroke of half time when he turned in Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s pass, but Kouyate halved the deficit in the opening minutes of the second half when he headed home James Tomkins’s delivery.

Both teams had chances as the second half progressed, but Arsenal eventually emerged victorious.
