Maya Yoshida filled in for Nathaniel Clyne for Southampton against Chelsea.

Southampton fans had every right to be worried heading into Sunday's game with Chelsea without their first choice full-backs.

The ineligible Ryan Bertrand was replaced by Matt Targett and Nathaniel Clyne by centre-back Maya Yoshida - who had the unenviable task of facing Eden Hazard.

The Belgian has been in superb form throughout 2014, and enjoyed another impressive game against the Saints.

He scored Chelsea's goal in the 1-1 draw, losing Yoshida to fire home, but was restricted in terms of creativity - failing to carve out a single goalscoring chance.

It was one of only three times Hazard has been stopped in this manner this season, only on this occasion he was able to offset that disappointment by scoring.

Yoshida's display was a contributing factor behind his generally underwhelming game, with the Japanese international making three tackles and winning four interceptions.

With Sadio Mane's strike cancelling out Hazard's goal, Ronaldo Koeman could take delight that his decision to match Yoshida up against the Belgian was not a poor one, with Southampton picking up a valuable point.

Clyne is expected to return to the starting line-up for the visit of Arsenal, but Yoshida's solid display showed that if he is required again, there should be no need to panic about his ability to play in the position.

Here's a look at how supporters reacted to his performance...
