In an interview with the Radio Times, Graham Lineham (IT Crowd, Father Ted, Black Books) has admitted that he would like to make an IT Crowd spinoff, starring Matt Berry (IT Crowd, Toast of London, Garth Merenghi's Darkplace) as Douglas Reynholm.
In the interview Lineham had the following to say;
"I'd really love to do a Douglas spinoff of The IT Crowd,
I could easily spend an hour, or half an hour, with Douglas. He's my favourite way of making fun of people that I really loathe, like Rupert Murdoch and Donald Trump.
I basically just have happen to him all the things that I'd love to happen to them, and it's basically a really enjoyable process."
This is of course just in the initial stages at the moment as Lineham explains;
"This is just a half-formed thing at the moment, and also I've got to wait and see if Matt would be interested in revisiting the character.At the moment I'm happy to watch him in Toast and he's obviously carving out a new role for himself as a writer and star as well, so I'll stay out of the way at the moment and pounce when he's taking a rest."
We at Here Is The City really hope that something comes from this, as Matt Berry is a fantastic actor and the character of Douglas Reynholm was comedy gold in the IT Crowd. Whether this would also see a return of his fellow IT Crowd cast members Richard Ayoade (IT Crowd, Gadget Man, Submarine), Chris O'Dowd (IT Crowd, Moone Boy, Bridesmaids) and Katherine Parkinson (IT Crowd, Doc Martin, The Boat That Rocked) remains to be seen but the chances of some cameos would likely be high.
