Arsene Wenger on former midfielder Alex Song, who is now at West Ham

The Cameroonian will face Arsenal in the Premier League for the first time today.

Arsenal take on West Ham this Sunday and when they do they will be facing some familiar faces. With Carl Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal, he can't play. He could find himself being replaced by a former Arsenal player in the shape of Guy Demel.

But it is of course the presence of Alex Song which will cause the biggest stir. The Cameroonian is on loan at West Ham from Barcelona and this will be the first time he has faced Arsenal in the Premier League.

Arsenal snapped up Song in 2005 from French side Bastia and he went on to have seven great years at Arsenal. But he was then sold to Barcelona for £15 million back in the summer of 2012.

He has already spoken in the press this week about facing his former team and now Arsene Wenger has returned the favour, by speaking glowingly of the midfield operator.

He told his pre-game press conference:

"He didn't play on Friday against Chelsea. He was certainly rested for us. I think he was a very good player when he was here but he didn't play a lot when he was in Spain.

"I brought him here at the age of 17 and kept him despite all the opinions against him. You don't need to convince me he's a good player."

Arsenal will hope he does not show his best form today.
