Southampton fans react on Twitter to James Ward-Prowse performance v Crystal Palace

The England under-21 international was in top form for Southampton today.

Southampton's season looked like being derailed at Brammall Lane recently, but now it appears they have it back on track. After disposing of Everton 3-0 in their previous Premier League game they went into their Boxing Day fixture full of hope. They were right to be optimistic as they comfortably defeated Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park 3-1.

There was certainly a few performances that caught the eye for Southampton. The Senegalese winger Sadio Mane, who earlier in the day was given a place in the Senegal team for the African Cup of Nations, scored and bagged an assist in a terrorising performance.

But it was not just Mane who caught they eye. James Ward-Prowse is yet another excellent player off the Southampton youth conveyor belt. In recent weeks he has been out injured but now he is back in action, it is like he never left.

JWP is never going to be a swashbuckling back and forth player. In the past he has been compared to David Beckham, because of his excellent range of passing and set-piece deliveries.

The Southampton fans got to see that in action today. He played a sumptuous pass for Mane's goal and he whipped in a trademark set-piece which Toby Alderweireld nodded into the back of the net.

It was an excellent performance from the English under-21 international and it looks like we will be seeing a lot more from JWP in the coming month.
