Louis van Gaal: Criticism of Spurs' Christian Eriksen is 'rubbish'

The Manchester United boss has spoken highly of the Tottenham Hotspur midfielder.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is wary of the threat posed by Christian Eriksen later today.

Tottenham host Manchester United at midday and Eriksen is the north London side's in-form player this season.

And Van Gaal was full of praise for the 'very good' Spurs midfielder ahead of today's clash.

Indeed, asked if the Tottenham man was ever too lightweight for the demands of the Premier League, the Dutchman was defiant.

“That is rubbish, always rubbish,” the Manchester United boss is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror. “Because, when you have high standards, you can play in the Premier League. He is very good on the ball.

“It’s not a problem that he is not so tall or physical. You see Juan Mata playing for us against Newcastle. He made two assists.”

Going into Spurs' clash with Manchester United, Eriksen is Tottenham's top scorer in the Premier League this season and netted a second-half winner for Mauricio Pochettino's side at Leicester on Boxing Day.
