Perhaps Joleon Lescott said too much ahead of his reunion with former club Manchester City.
“Friday is going to be exciting but my job is for West Bromwich Albion now," Lescott told reporters in anticipation of the Boxing Day clash.
“We don’t want to be known as a good playing team that never wins, we’d rather win ugly and not play great football.
“So it’s important we get some results. We’re disappointed by the result at QPR, not the performance, and we don’t want it to be a recurring theme that we keep saying that.”
Well, in the defender's defence, he didn't say all that much. But yet another West Brom defeat still made it look as though no one was heeding his words. Especially when you consider the fact that Lescott himself was at fault for some of the goals as Manchester City beat the Baggies 3-1 at the Hawthorns yesterday.
Some West Brom fans, in fact, asked whether the 32-year-old had even forgotten that he left Manchester City last summer, following another disappointing result for the Midlands side.
Interestingly, some Baggies felt Lescott performed well, although many were more than critical of his display against his former side. Here are the best Twitter reactions to the centre-back's performance (in the snow) against champions Manchester City...
@BBCMOTD did lescott forget he plays for the baggies now and not man city? Assist king to city with the 2 goals he gave away— Swanaldingdong (@SwannyWBA4LYF) December 26, 2014
#wba Best player: Lescott Worst player: Brunt Most overrated player: Berahino— (@Stevieeyy) December 27, 2014
I think we looked tired, lescott can't do it all, silly keeping mistake, sloppy pen and no tracking back and saido not being clinical #wba— Ian Pardoe (@IanPardoe1) December 26, 2014
Berahino had 2 chances, lescott had a header he fluffed, Gardner had a chance. City scored 3 from #WBA being bad at the back— Andrew Beech (@beechyboy90) December 26, 2014
