Angel Di Maria urges Man United to buy Nicolas Gaitan - report

The Express claim that the injured attacking midfielder has recommended his international teammate to the club.

Manchester United are expected to be one of the busier sides in the January transfer window, with the Old Trafford outfit pushing to establish themselves in the top four once more.

Louis Van Gaal’s men are widely expected to weigh up options in the centre of their midfield and defence, but a transfer rumour has suggested that a new attacking wide player could be in their sights also.

The Express claim that current star Angel Di Maria is urging his employers to splash the cash on countryman Nicolas Gaitan, who continues to impress at Benfica.

United are said to be long-time admirers of the 26-year-old, who was signed by the Portuguese club to replace Di Maria when he left the Estadio da Luz to join Real Madrid.

Gaitan signed a new contract with the current Portuguese champions relatively recently, but it is suggested that the deal has a £30 million release clause written into it.

Given the level of expenditure by United in recent windows, a big-money move for Gaitan is not out of the question but other areas will surely be a priority.

With the attacking stars at Van Gaal’s disposal currently and the side’s defence the major concern, most of the Old Trafford faithful would surely prefer the money to be spent on an established centre-half rather than Gaitan.
