Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino will be delighted with the comments of Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka in relation to Spurs youngster Milos Veljkovic.
The teenage Serbian has been playing on loan with the high flying Championship club and Karanka was left purring over the Tottenham star’s performance in the match against Ipswich despite the 2-0 defeat.
“I am very pleased with Milos. I felt he was the best player on the pitch in the last game,” said Karanka.
“He went onto the pitch at a difficult time and he showed everyone he is a mature player, even though he is only 19 years old.”
What makes the comments about Veljkovic more remarkable is the fact that he’s been used out of position by Middlesbrough, in more of a midfield role.
Tottenham have developed him as a defender, but he’s shown versatility and will be better off for the knowledge of how to play in a different role.
It’s unclear when he’ll return to Tottenham, but when he does, it gives him an advantage over the other youngsters at Spurs who play in a similar position.
Pochettino will be looking for two things from any player away from the club on loan this season.
Firstly, he’ll be looking for them to play frequently and to stay injury free in the process.
Secondly, he’ll be looking for them to develop and return to the club in better shape than when they left.
On both counts, Veljkovic ticks all of the right boxes and more.
