French newspaper L’Equipe claims Tottenham Hotspur are cracking on with a deal to sign Adrien Rabiot from Paris Saint-Germain.
There have been previous reports in the last few weeks that a deal had been agreed between Spurs and Rabiot’s representatives, but L’Equipe suggests that talks are ongoing.
The reported deal on the table would see Spurs sign Rabiot as midfield cover over the second half of the season on loan, with PSG retaining him ahead of next season.
That would appear to benefit all parties because Tottenham get their man while PSG offload a player who stands a better chance of developing quickly in England.
However, the problem for Spurs is double edged.
Firstly, Rabiot is an extremely ambitious young man and if he moves, he’ll want assurances over first team playing time, which leads onto the second problem.
Central midfield is an area of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad where he’s well stocked at the moment and whether he’d give Rabiot playing time ahead of some other players he’s shown faith to this season is doubtful.
It’s a positive deal for Tottenham if they can pull it off, but fans more than likely haven’t heard the last of this rumour.
