The Argentine centre-back truly enjoyed his World Cup experience.
Manchester United take on Newcastle United today at Old Trafford, as the 2014 football season comes to an end.
It has certainly been an entertaining year in football for United. A manager out, a manager in and this one brings with him renewed optimism for what is to come.
He also brought with him new players, many of whom he spotted at the World Cup. Louis van Gaal took Holland to the semi-finals this year, when they were knocked out by Argentina - a team that clearly impressed him.
Because he snapped up both Angel Di Maria and Marcos Rojo this summer for Manchester United. Rojo was brought in from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of around £16 million - in a transfer saga that lasted several weeks.
His busy year also saw him help Argentina to a World Cup final in Brazil. He was one of the stars of the Argentina team that were beaten by Germany in a very close World Cup final.
But the Brazilian experience was still among the best of his year, a fact he shared with this message on Instagram today which translates:
"One of the highlights of this 2014 to be #recuerdos # mundial2014 #argentina #momentosunicos #2014."
