Tottenham Hotspur need to move a player out quickly as Liverpool circle around one of their reported targets.
Central midfield is one of the strongest areas of Tottenham Hotspur’s squad, but there’s a good reason why Mauricio Pochettino needs to force a player out of the door quickly.
French source Le 10 Sport claims Liverpool have entered the race to sign talented French youngster Adrien Rabiot from Paris Saint-Germain, which puts Spurs under pressure in terms of their own interest.
Recent reports had suggested that Tottenham had already agreed a deal with the player’s main representative, his mother, over a move, which would have seen him link up with the White Hart Lane club over the rest of the season.
However, Liverpool’s reported interested suggests that any agreement is far from concrete and a factor, which could sway things in Tottenham’s favour is offering him more game time than he’d get from a move to Liverpool.
That’s possible if Tottenham can free up some squad space and get a player out of the exit door, which would naturally improve Rabiot’s chances of playing more for Spurs.
There are reports this morning that Tottenham are trying to do a deal with Inter Milan over Paulinho, which would see the Brazilian move in a similar loan deal to the Serie A giants.
Rabiot is rated as one of the best prospects in French football and he could inject pace, energy and technical quality into Tottenham’s midfield.
Pochettino is a manager who likes his team to press high and dominate possession where possible, which is an area of Tottenham’s game that a player like Rabiot would definitely improve.
Tottenham can play on the extra space on their squad as an advantage stressing the likes of Joe Allen, Lucas, Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Emre Can as disadvantages for Rabiot should he be tempted by the prospect of Anfield.
One in, one out is a transfer policy that a lot of clubs stick by and it’s never been more apt than in this situation.
