‘Rodgers has until end of the season for me’ says ex-Liverpool star

Brendan Rodgers needs to get the Kop singing again if he wants to keep his job according to one former star.

Former Liverpool player Steve Nicol has been speaking about the Reds' recent transfer business and Brendan Rodgers’ situation at the club.

In an exclusive interview with Talk Sport, Nicol said that only two of the players Rodgers has signed for a reported £200million have been a success – Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge.

“The other 18 to 19 players he’s signed haven’t kicked a ball and that’s a horrible percentage when it comes to signing players.

“So if I’m John Henry I’ve got a really tough decision as to whether I give Rodgers any more money.”

Some of the players Liverpool have signed recently could go on to have very successful careers at the club – namely Emre Can and Lazar Markovic – but at the same time Rodgers has seen too many of his signings fail to hit the ground running despite (in many cases) their previous Premier League experience.

Of Rodgers himself, Nicol added, “He’s got until the end of the season for me. If by the end of the season the crowd at Anfield is still quiet – which they have been recently – that may be the last straw.”

Liverpool are currently 10th in the Premier League table but their 2-2 draw with Arsenal is likely to have given them confidence heading into the second half of the campaign.

But Daniel Sturridge’s return cannot come soon enough, while it is time many of the club’s more experienced players – old and new – showed they were up for the fight.
