Jonas Gutierrez has a smile on his face again, with the Argentine ready to bid farewell to what has been a difficult year.
The 31-year-old revealed in September that has undergoing treatment for testicular cancer, drawing an emotional response from the football community.
He was, however, discharged from hospital in November and has wasted no time in throwing himself back into his day job.
Gutierrez made his first outing since April for Newcastle United’s U21 side on Monday, and skippered them to a 4-1 victory over West Ham United.
He has since joined back up with the first-team ranks for festive training, with Alan Pardew putting his players through their paces on Christmas Eve ahead of a Boxing Day visit to Manchester United.
Gutierrez will be hoping to play some part for the Magpies in the New Year, but for the time being he is just happy to be back around the likes of Jack Colback, Jak Alnwick, Ayoze Perez and Cheick Tiote.
