Alan Pardew admits that he has been surprised with how quickly Ayoze Perez has adapted to English football.
The striker, who signed from Tenerife this summer for £1.5 million, was expected to be brought in as back-up, but he has forced his way into starting contention with some brilliant performances.
Perez already has four goals to his name since joining the Magpies and the remarkable start to his career has even shocked his manager.
“I think if you said at start of the year he would be in this position, I would have said that was unlikely," Pardew admitted to the Shields Gazette.
“His physical improvement has been immense. He was already technically accomplished.
“His physical attributes and mentality in games have improved massively.”
Perez's ability has already made him a fans' favourite at St. James' Park and the club's supporters are keen to watch his progress.
Comfortable in possession and a clinical finisher, Perez looks one of the most exciting prospects in the Premier League.
The Spaniard is still only 21-years-old and has plenty of time to improve, but he already looks a refined player, capable of going all the way to the top.
When Perez arrived at St. James' Park he was an unknown quantity, but he has quickly started to make a name for himself and he is sure to be one of the club's protagonists in 2015.
