Chelsea ace Fabregas on track to break Arsenal legend's Prem record

Chelsea's Cesc Fabregas is on course to break the Premier League season-assist record, currently held by former-Arsenal ace Thierry Henry.

One of the main factors behind Chelsea's blistering start to the 2014/15 season has been the form of summer signing Cesc Fabregas. Returning to the Barclays Premier League following a three season spell with Barcelona, the Spanish midfielder has slotted seamlessly into Jose Mourinho's star-studded midfield.

Chelsea currently occupy first place in the table, three points clear of reigning champions Manchester City, and every other time Chelsea have topped the standings on December 25th, the club has gone on to win the title.

Fabregas has taken the Premier League by storm since his return, with his creative prowess proving the talking point. In 16 appearances this term he has fashioned an incredible 54 key passes, an achievement that sees him ranked as the top flight's most innovative player, while recording 12 assists and a further two goals.

Currently leading the race for the competition's 'Silver Boot' accolade, the Spaniard is on course to break the English top flight assist record for a single season, currently held by former Arsenal centre-forward, Thierry Henry. The recently-retired star managed an all-time best 20 assists throughout the 2002/03 season, as per OptaJoe.

Impressively, the only player to exceed Fabregas' impressive start to the season is the Spaniard himself, who had 10 for Arsenal in 2009/10, yet hampered by injury throughout the second half of the campaign, he was unable to match Henry's efforts of 12 years ago. Nonetheless, with a few extra season's worth of experience under his belt, Fabregas looks more than capable of overtaking his former Arsenal team-mate this time round.
