Last season it was the game when Jose Mourinho accused Sam Allardyce's side of playing 19th century football. With Chelsea top of the table, and West Ham riding high in fourth, this game promises something very different.
To be played on Friday 26th December 2014 at 12:45. Venue: Stamford Bridge, London
Odds: Chelsea 4/11, Draw 17/4, West Ham 9/1
This will be a true test of both side's credentials. Chelsea are 100% in the league at home this season and are currently three points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League, and with a difficult looking trip to Southampton to follow, a win is essential to keep Manchester City at bay.
For West Ham, last season they parked the bus which irked Jose Mourinho somewhat when they were struggling around the relegation places, now they have ambitions of Europe given they sit in fourth place in the Premier League. Taking something from Stamford Bridge this season would really show they mean business, especially ahead of the game against Arsenal two days later.
It will be interesting to see just how the visitors approach this game given they have been very good at pressing sides high up the field and mixing things up - but will they sit deep in order to try and frustrate the home side?
A fascinating game for the neutrals awaits.
“One match at home against West Ham, because West Ham - Big Sam - they are doing amazingly well this season.”
“It's great to pit your wits against the best and Jose is proving that again this season.”
