The deal which took Neymar to Barcelona has generated plenty of headlines – good and bad.
The La Liga giants are determined to get their money’s worth, though, having invested upwards of £70 million in the Brazil international.
He is considered to be one of the finest players on the plant, so it would come as a surprise were Barca to offer the slightest hint that he could be lured to pastures new.
There is no chance of that happening any time soon, with Neymar’s current contract taking him through to 2018.
Barca are also addressing the issue of an extension, with talks opened with his representatives.
Agent Wagner Ribeiro told reporters in Brazil: “Of course Barcelona want to renew his contract. Until 2020? Yes.”
The Camp Nou heavyweights will be hoping that Neymar starts to offer more on the considerable investment made in him than he has so far.
He continues to put in talismanic displays for his country, but he has struggled to produce those heroics at club level.
His strike rate in Spain is more than acceptable, at one in every two, but he is yet to scale the heights expected of him and has been unable to carry Barca above Madrid rivals Atletico and Real in the pursuit of major honours.
