Tottenham Hotspur received an early Christmas present this week when the club confirmed American international DeAndre Yedlin will join up with the squad in January.
The impressive full-back showed his talents on the international stage at the World Cup in June, and Tottenham beat competition from Serie A challengers Roma to clinch his signature.
It was originally agreed that Yedlin would join up with Spurs in the summer of 2015, but with the MLS season running through the calendar year, and now in the off-season, it makes sense for him to join now rather than leave Seattle Sounders midway through their campaign.
Head coach Mauricio Pochettino believes the move next month will be to the player's benefit, telling Tottenham's website:
"It is important for his development that he is given the time to adapt to his new surroundings both on and off the pitch and we believe that by coming to us in January it will give him the best opportunity to do so."
Yedlin is predominantly a right-back, but played 45 minutes of USA's recent friendly against Colombia in midfield.
He perhaps could actually have had more of an impact in the first half of the season with Kyle Walker injured, but the plan is clearly not to rush the 21-year-old.
With the club playing in the Capital One Cup, FA Cup and Europa League as well as the Premier League, having Yedlin around boosts Tottenham's squad and gives both he and his manager opportunities.
Here is a look at how fans reacted to the news breaking...
Seeing how much the Summer 2013 signing class from other leagues has struggled (Soldado, Lamela, etc.) I won't expect much from Yedlin #COYS— Cliff Schmidt (@cliffsnews) December 23, 2014
DeAndre Yedlin arriving in January. Awesome #COYS— Gappistan Radio (@GappistanRadio) December 23, 2014
People need to calm down about Yedlin, he's a rightback not the new messiah, it'll take time to adapt and integrate. #COYS— Richard Chandler (@rich_chandler) December 23, 2014
