Tottenham are reportedly happy to allow Eric Dier to make a temporary move in the January transfer window.
Eric Dier could leave Tottenham Hotspur on loan in the January transfer window, according to a report in the London Evening Standard.
Dier has been a first-team regular for Spurs so far this campaign, but Mauricio Pochettino apparently feels his development would be best served elsewhere because of the increased options in his preferred positions.
The 20-year-old has been stationed at right-back for most of his Spurs career, but Kyle Walker's return to fitness means he is now second choice there.
With DeAndre Yedlin also arriving in January, it seems that Dier will be pushed down to third choice in this position and his chances of breaking in at centre-back also look limited.
Pochettino seems to have settled upon his favoured partnership at the heart of his defence, with Federico Fazio and Jan Vertonghen starting the side's most recent matches.
It means that Dier is likely to be consigned to the substitutes' bench at White Hart Lane and the Argentine manager would apparently prefer the former Sporting Lisbon man to continue getting first-team football, even if it means that he would have to temporarily move elsewhere.
Dier has reportedly been identified as a player who Pochettino can build his team around in the future, but he has shown signs of naivety so far this season.
Although there has been flashes of excellence in the young defender's game, he has also made some errors and still needs some refining before he's ready for a regular role in a Champions League chasing side.
