Spanish website SuperDeporte claims £25 million rated Manchester United target Enzo Perez is close to joining La Liga side Valencia from Benfica.
The 28-year-old has been mentioned as a midfielder who could come into the Manchester United squad in January, giving manager Louis van Gaal extra options over the second half of the season but SD no longer feels that’s a possibility.
“Valencia expect the footballer after Christmas. Enzo Perez arrived yesterday to spend the holidays with his family and will present himself (for a medical) on the 29th aiming to debut against Madrid on January 4,” reports SD.
The news shouldn’t come as a huge blow to Manchester United fans because LvG has already hinted that he wasn’t planning to make many major signings in the middle of the season, suggesting he feels his squad is good enough with everyone fit and available.
It’s also arguable that the club has more pressing concerns in other areas, with a need for an experienced central defender to come into the team and take some of the pressure away from younger players.
There are also still reports lingering that the club will try and sign Kevin Strootman from AS Roma this winter, a player who LvG clearly admires and a player who has been a long term target for the club.
Missing out on Perez isn’t ideal because he’s a top quality player but it’s certainly not the end of the world.
