Former Tottenham Hotspur chairman Lord Sugar believes Erik Lamela showed for the very first time at the weekend what a great player he can be for the club.
The Argentine netted his first ever Premier League goal in the 2-1 win over Burnley, a sumptuous curler which was deserving of winning any match.
Sugar was responding to an article from SkySports pundit Chris Kamara which had praised the club's record signing, but he feels that head coach Mauricio Pochettino must do more to enable him to produce the same with regularity.
Chris Kamara praised Erik Lamela's performance v Burnley as brilliant. I have to agree for the first time he showed he is great player.— Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) December 23, 2014
It is clear that Erik Lamela has talent but unless the rest of the team gel it wont turn into goals. Up to MP to sort out— Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) December 23, 2014
Injury ruined Lamela's first season at Tottenham, but there are signs he is beginning to grasp the mettle at the club this campaign.
He remains terribly inconsistent, but his moments of magic confirm what a great player he can be if he can produce it with regularity.
It was certainly Lamela's finest Premier League moment, but we'd suggest Sugar had not watched his magnificent goal in the Europa League early this season which only a 'great' player could even think of, let alone score.
