Is this the stat that proves Arsenal should have signed Cesc Fabregas?

Fabregas Barcelona

This season, Cesc Fabregas has outperformed Jack Wilshere’s entire Arsenal career.

Fabregas has been a revelation since signing for Chelsea over the summer, providing the creative spark in Jose Mourinho’s midfield.

Another goal and assist against Stoke City on Monday evening took the Spanish international to two goals and 12 assists in 16 Premier League games this season, and it has been Fabregas leading the charge that sees the West London club sit atop the Premier League table heading into Christmas - a position that history suggests will reward them with the title at the end of the season.

Fabregas moved to Chelsea over the summer, choosing the Blues as the most viable option to join after leaving Barcelona, with former club Arsenal refusing their buy-back right on the 27-year-old midfielder. Head coach Arsene Wenger has admitted that he was offered the chance to re-sign his former captain, but after signing Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla the Frenchman claimed that he was no longer needed at the Emirates Stadium.

However, it is neither of that pair who fill the role that Fabregas has been playing at Stamford Bridge, with the deep-lying midfield creator role played by Jack Wilshere for the Gunners.

And it is the comparison between Wilshere and Fabregas which makes Arsenal fans only wish the Spaniard was turning out for the Gunners again this season.

After registering his 12th Premier League assist of the season on Monday evening, Fabregas has now recorded more assists in 16 games than Wilshere has in his entire 95 game Premier League career withe Gunners - with just 11 made.

It is a damning indictment of Wenger’s refusal to re-sign his former star, and it could be the thing that costs the Gunners their top four position at the close of this season.
