Liverpool morning news, Reds told to bid for Cech, potential defensive overhaul

Petr Cech

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Tuesday morning.

Liverpool have been told to bid for Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech in the summer according to the Daily Mirror, who quote his agent.

It is no secret that Liverpool are on the lookout for a new goalkeeper given that Brad Jones has recently taken the place of Simon Mignolet. Mignolet's loss of form has alarmed the club, whilst Jones is not scene as the long-term solution.

Cech is currently second choice to Thibaut Courtois at Stamford Bridge, and Victor Kolar has said both Liverpool and Arsenal should make a move for him.

He said: “It’s unlikely Petr will leave Chelsea in the January transfer window. The club and coach want to keep him to help win the title. I think Arsenal should have made an offer to him. I think Petr would be considering it.

“Liverpool need to strengthen their position in goal and they know Petr will be available in the summer."

There could be another overhaul when it comes to the club's defenders according to the Daily Telegraph, with many players either out of contract at the end of the season, or the season after.

Kolo Toure, Glen Johnson, Jon Flanagan and Brad Jones are all out of contract in the summer, whilst Martin Skrtel has another year to run on his deal.

Jose Enrique and Mamadou Sakho could be sold if the right offer comes in according to the report, whilst the futures of Andre Wisdom, Tiago Ilori and Sebastian - who are all on loan - remain unclear.
