Spurs boss Pochettino responds to Kane, Sturridge comparisons

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge's name came up during a Mauricio Pochettino press conference.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino believes Harry Kane 'needs time' if he is ever to reach the same level as Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

The Spurs boss was asked about the Liverpool forward, who scored 21 goals in last season's Premier League, during a recent press conference.

But Pochettino is wary of how much Tottenham forward Kane has to develop to match Sturridge's exploits for Liverpool.

“Sturridge is a typical English player. The way that I see the English player is as a strong character who works hard and has quality," the Tottenham boss told reporters.

“Harry needs time to carry on in the same way. To believe, try to improve and play. With a young player, they need not only the opportunity to play, they also need to make mistakes, they need to get experience.

“We need to have patience for them to develop. For the managers it is difficult because you always want quick results and with youngsters you need to back them when they make a mistake.

“I think we are strong in this way. When we believe in a young talent we always back them.”
