Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp has been talking about Erik Lamela, a player he has previously written off.
Lamela scored what proved to be the winner against Burnley this weekend, demonstrating his outstanding talent.
Redknapp said that while Lamela deserves credit, goals against relegation-threatened opposition has proved little so far.
He told The Mail: "I still feel he’s a bit lightweight but credit where credit is due.
"The key for Lamela now is to go and affect big games. He needs to score in a derby match or do something where we can all sit back and say: ‘So that’s why they paid £30million.’ That’s the next challenge."
Amazingly it was the first goal Lamela has scored in the Premier League, but he has to start somewhere and this is an ideal opportunity for the Argentine to kick on.
Just like Harry Kane has a target to score 20 goals this season, Lamela - who in all competitions has three - needs to aim to try to hit double figures.
Doing so will improve his confidence and help his all-round game, while a drawback could be defenders paying him extra close attention.
His goal is a positive step and a mark against him to chalk off, and his next step will undoubtedly be doing the same in a 'big' game, answering the critics who wrote him off so quickly.
