Chelsea’s game against Stoke City this evening caps off the latest round of Premier League action as Christmas fast approaches this week.
There were some outstanding results for sides over the weekend, with Liverpool showing grit to come back and get a point against Arsenal and Aston Villa managed to get something from their game against in form Manchester United.
There was also some interesting football in the Championship with Leeds taking a point at Nottingham Forest to end a losing run.
We’ve taken a look back on some stories making the headlines on this day last year.
‘Van Gaal quizzed on Tottenham rumours’
Current Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal was quizzed on rumours linking him with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur.
Van Gaal was preparing his Netherlands side for a World Cup in Brazil when the rumours about interest from Tottenham first started.
“I've always said that I want to work in the Premier League, so there's a chance. Everyone who knows me knows I won't do two jobs at the same time,” said LvG.
‘Leeds star Lees disappointed’
Ex-Leeds United defender Tom Lees was left disappointed after a frustrating draw against Barnsley.
Lees called for his old side to aim for consistency ahead of the traditionally busy Christmas and New Year period.
“We had done well at home so, from that point of view, it was disappointing. But we also went up a place despite drawing at home - We are getting that consistency now,” he said.
‘Ba rejects Arsenal speculation’
There were some rumours that Arsenal were looking to sign Chelsea forward Demba Ba to boost them over the second half of the campaign.
However, Ba revealed that there had never been any approach on the cards from the Gunners.
“People talk a lot about me joining Arsenal. But there has never been an approach from them,” he told the Sun.
