Ince was due to stay at the City Ground until next month, but Hull opted to cut the deal short as they feel he could help to change the side's fortunes.
The Tigers have been on poor form over the season so far and Steve Bruce clearly wants every option he has at his disposal available to him.
Ince is set to be brought back into Hull's squad for their game on Boxing Day against Sunderland and he will be looking to have a far greater impact than he has done during his time at Forest.
The attacking midfielder was expected to be Stuart Pearce's side's creative fulcrum, but he failed to live up to his reputation.
Ince has destroyed Championship defences previously in his career, but he was well short of his best at Forest.
The 22-year-old played six times for the Reds, but his failure to hit the back of the net or have any meaningful impact during these matches means that fans of the club haven't been left too disappointed by his early exit.
Many Forest supporters feel that Ince still can have a bright future in the game, but his consistently poor performances for them mean that stopping the move sooner than expected has been best for all parties.
Here is the best reaction from Forest fans on social media site Twitter to Ince's recall from Hull.
If Tom Ince goes down in history of #NFFC players, his name should be right next to Nate Chalobah's. Both will have good careers though.— Will Ward (@WillWard_Acad) December 22, 2014
Ince recalled? Good... made no impact whatsoever... #nffc— Simon Helliwell (@Helliwell6) December 22, 2014
Ince gone back to Hull. Let's face it, it was another Chalobah saga really. Player not living up to their potential. #nffc— Shepherd (@Jiminy_Bob) December 22, 2014
Not bothered about Ince tbh. Either he isn't fit, doesn't want to be here or is just not that good. #nffc— Nick (@nffc82) December 22, 2014
Not a surprise to see Tom Ince recalled by Hull City. He'd struggled to make an impact with #nffc— Paul Taylor (@nottmtails) December 22, 2014
Thomas Ince. Rarely has such a talented player made such a small impact. Expected, and hoped for, much better. #nffc— Peter Blackburn (@petermblackburn) December 22, 2014
Was really happy when we got Tom Ince, but what a waste of time that turned out to be #nffc— adam (@adsilson) December 22, 2014
Can't say I'm too fussed about tom ince returning to hull! Did not look remotely interested at #nffc— Shaunyg85 (@srg19850715) December 22, 2014
