Chelsea loan round-up: Teenager scores two, Piazon's rare start and more

Stamford Bridge Outside

A round-up of how Chelsea’s loan stars got on at the weekend.

Chelsea’s first-team are not back in action until Monday evening when they take on Stoke City in a bid to stretch their lead at the top of the Premier League table back to three points. But while Jose Mourinho will be fully focused on that encounter, a number of his younger stars will have been hoping to catch his eye this weekend.

Here we take a look at how some of Chelsea’s loan stars got on.

Josh McEachran and Bertrand Traore – Vitesse Arnhem

Bertrand Traore had a match to remember for Vitesse Arnhem on Sunday as the 19-year-old scored two goals in a 3-1 win against Heracles.

The Burkina Faso player started in the centre of a front-three and showed why he is rated so highly by his parent-club.

Fellow Chelsea loanee Josh McEachran came on as a second-half substitute to make his 14th appearance of the campaign.

Patrick Bamford and Kenneth Omeruo – Middlesbrough

Patrick Bamford and Kenneth Omeruo both started Middlesbrough’s Championship match against Ipswich Town but the defender could not prevent his side falling to a 2-0 defeat and the striker could not add to his recent goal-tally.

Prior to this match Bamford had scored six goals in his last seven matches but he drew a blank against an Ipswich side enjoying a great campaign.

Defender Omeruo was replaced in the 62nd minute by Tottenham Hotspur loanee Milos Veljkovic.

Oriol Romeu – Stuttgart

Oriol Romeu played the whole of Stuttgart’s Bundesliga match against Paderborn on Saturday.

The Spanish midfielder – who has previously made 33 appearances for Chelsea – has now played 17 times since moving to Germany and he has now helped his side to a three-game undefeated streak.

Thorgan Hazard – Borussia Monchengladbach

Belgian midfielder Thorgan Hazard started Borussia Monchengladbach’s league match against Augsburg on Saturday but he could not inspire his side to a win.

The hosts won 2-1, leaving Chelsea’s other Hazard without an assist for the first time in four league matches.

Lucas Piazon – Eintracht Frankfurt

Chelsea’s young Brazilian Lucas Piazon started his first Bundesliga match in over two months this weekend, as the 20-year-old was selected to play against Bayer Leverkusen.

Frankfurt were just seven minutes away from sealing a 1-0 win but ultimately dropped two points after a late equaliser, but Piazon saw out the match and will be hoping to experience plenty more action in the weeks ahead.
