Arsenal morning news: Confusing bid for Coentrao, Mertesacker and Oxlade-Chamberlain on draw

A round up of news stories this morning about Arsenal.

Arsenal are reported as one of the teams preparing a £25 million bid for Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao.

The Portuguese star has also been heavily linked with moves to Liverpool and Manchester United.

The problem with Arsenal’s interest is that they already have two good left-backs in Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs.

German defender Per Mertesacker says he’s not pleased with the team’s performance during the 2-2 draw against Liverpool yesterday.

Arsenal were well placed to take all three points until Martin Skrtel equalised with a header in injury time.

“Overall we have to take responsibility for our game - we want to dictate but we were on always on the back foot. I'm not really pleased with the performance but we take the point now and we're looking forward to December 26,” he said.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has joined Mertesacker in criticising the nature of Arsenal’s performance.

The Ox has suggested that the side needed to show more grit to secure the win and three points.

“It's really disappointing for us. I don't think we played that well today, but sometimes you need to win those games when you don't play well, especially away from home at a hard place at Anfield,” said the England international.
