Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Arsenal earlier today would have been frustrating for all parties.
Liverpool fans would have been delighted with their side's impetus going forward - but not their defending; Arsenal fans would have been infuriated by pretty much everything that happened bar their two goals; neutrals, meanwhile, may have been entertained but knew they were watching two poor-quality sides.
And nothing summed the game up better than Martin Skrtel's late equaliser. Skrtel, who himself had a shocking day from a defensive point of view, rose brilliantly to show real spirit and head home in injury time.
But just what was Per Mertesacker doing to stop him? As the above image shows, the German was literally wincing and hiding from the ball. That cost the Gunners dearly.
For Liverpool, the tendency to gift goals to the opposition is a trait that has been ignored by boss Brendan Rodgers for two and a half years. In that sense, for a reported £2 million per year, he is not doing his job.
The Reds, however, looked a much-improved side going forward and can take hope from the 2-2 draw - even if they look as though they will never be able to defend properly under Rodgers. Much like Mertesacker this season...
