Michael Owen comments on Charlie Austin's form, good enough for England?

The Queens Park Rangers striker is now the third-highest scorer in the Premier League.

Former Premier League striker Michael Owen feels Charlie Austin is 'definitely worth having a look' at for England manager Roy Hodgson.

The QPR forward has been in stunning form so far this season and is now the top flight's third-top scorer.

His goals alone have won the R's a huge sum of points - not least when his hat-trick saw them come back from two goals down to beat West Brom 3-2 yesterday afternoon.

And Owen feels the 26-year-old is worth consideration for an international call-up.

"Charlie Austin. Worthy of an England call up or not? Not many top-class English strikers around and he's banging the goals in for a struggling team. Definitely worth Roy Hodgson having a look I reckon," Owen wrote on Sportlobster.

Alexis Sánchez 9 5 42 10 1,228

As Opta stats show, only Diego Costa and Sergio Aguero have netted more times than the QPR man this season, while Austin has also registered two assists.

The QPR striker tends to create less chances for others but is clinical when it comes to scoring himself, while he is also very strong in the air.
