‘I’m a big fan’ – Arsenal goalkeeper singing the praises of Liverpool ace

Liverpool attacker Raheem Sterling has won the praises of Arsenal shot-stopper Wojciech Szczesny.

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has said that Liverpool ace Raheem Sterling is one of the best English talents of recent years.

Speaking ahead of the Gunners’ trip to Anfield, the Polish international was keen to avoid a repeat of last year when a Sterling-inspired Liverpool side thrashed the North Londoners 5-1.

On that occasion, the 20-year-old outshone his fellow strike partners Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez by finding the net twice, profiting from some hesitant Arsenal defending.

Fortunately for Szczesny, this time despite conceding a late equaliser the North Londoners earned a very good point from the Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield.

While Sterling was relatively quiet, he has been excellent this season in an otherwise poor campaign for the Merseysiders, scoring three times and adding a further four assists in 16 Premier League starts.

His performances have reportedly attracted the attentions of the likes of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, and Arsenal's number one goalkeeper Szczesny believes that the hype is most certainly genuine.

“Sterling is a great player,” he told Arsenal.com. “He’s one of the big English talents to have come through in the last few years. I’m a big fan of Raheem’s - he’s very sharp and he’s very strong as well.

“He scores goals, he gets assists and he’s only 20 years of age. He’s doing an amazing job for the club and for the country as well so I’m a big fan of his.”

Sterling took four shots and played three key passes over the 90 minutes in the draw with Arsene Wenger’s men on Sunday, although he will be disappointed that he tested Szczesny only on one occasion.

The draw leaves the Reds in 10th spot in the Premier League table, nine points behind West Ham United in fourth.
