Might ex-Leeds man Matt Smith wish he could borrow namesake’s TARDIS?

Fulham's former Leeds United striker Matt Smith has been mingling with a former Doctor Who star and may be wishing that he could travel through time.

Matt Smith is a celebrity in his own right, as a professional footballer who has graced the books of Leeds United and Fulham.

He has, however, been mingling with stars from outside the world of sport, including one very famous namesake.

The other Matt Smith was once a leading Doctor – one with the power to travel through space and time.

It could be that his footballing equivalent asked to borrow the TARDIS during a recent meeting, with the 25-year-old striker having lost his way somewhat.

He may be ruing his decision to leave Elland Road over the summer, with a switch to Craven Cottage starting badly with a red card on his debut and leading to a loan spell at League One Bristol City.

Unfortunately for Smith, he cannot turn back the clock and it is now up to him to prove that he can replicate the form he showed during a one-season stint with Leeds and justify the faith shown in him by his current employers.

Smith has mustered just one goal this season, and that came for Leeds in the Capital One Cup.

Fulham’s decision to send him out on loan just a few months into a three-year contract does not bode well, but he has enjoyed success in the third tier before with Oldham Athletic and will be hoping to reignite his campaign over the busy festive period.
