Arsenal player ratings: Szczesny solid and Cazorla bright - but Mertesacker woeful

Olivier Giroud and Mathieu Debuchy

How Arsenal's players rated during their 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield.

Wojciech Szczesny 8 - kept Arsenal in the game with a number of fine saves, but could possibly have organised his defence better for the equaliser.

Calum Chambers 5 - couldn't cope with Lazar Markovic running at him in the first half, and was beaten far too easily by Skrtel for the late leveler.

Mathieu Debuchy 6 - turned inside and out for Coutinho's opener, but hit back with a great leap to equalise. Doesn't look to uncomfortable at centre back.

Per Mertesacker 4 - awful display. When Arsenal needed a leader to take charge of the corner late on, Mertesacker ducked out of the way, showing the lack of grit Arsenal still have. The rest of his performance was poor too, struggling to cope with the movement in Liverpool's attack.

Kieran Gibbs 5 - supported the attack well down the left hand side, but will also shoulder some of the blame for Skrtel's goal because he vacated his position on the post - a header he could've cleared had he stayed.

Mathieu Flamini 5 - offered some protection but is just so rash that he puts his time in tricky situations. Booked early on and could've been sent off, meaning the Gunners regularly have to carry the Frenchman.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain 5 - didn't look fully fit, and lost possession a little too often. Can't be criticised too much given his lack of training this week.

Santi Cazorla 7 - continued his fine recent form with a superb run and assist for Giroud's goal. Looked like Arsenal's most dangerous player in the final third.

Alexis Sanchez 4 - completely anonymous. When he did get on the ball, he was crowded out by Liverpool defenders. Arsenal need more from their £32m man in the big games.

Danny Welbeck 5 - worked hard but like Sanchez, didn't get into the game even when given the chance to stretch his legs on the counter.

Olivier Giroud 6 - didn't do a great deal in the first half but took his goal well to bring Arsenal back in the game, continuing his fine scoring form since his return from injury.

Substitutes

Francis Coquelin 6 - did well when he came on, showing bite and energy in midfield. In contention to start the next game now.

Joel Campbell and Nacho Monreal weren't on the pitch long enough to have an impact.
