A round-up of how Arsenal’s loan stars got on for their current clubs this weekend.
While Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was focusing on the Gunners’ encounter with Liverpool this weekend, a number of the North London club’s young players were aiming to impress elsewhere.
Arsenal have a few players currently out on loan and here we take a look at how some of Arsenal’s loan stars got on:
Benik Afobe – MK Dons
Benik Afobe was enduring something of a goal-drought, at least for a player who had previously scored 18 goals in 26 matches, but the Arsenal loanee was back on the score-sheet this weekend.
MK Dons thrashed Oldham 7-0 on Saturday and it was somewhat surprising that Afobe only managed one of those goals when you consider his previous form.
That said, he started the match on the bench and was only introduced with 22 minutes of normal-time to play, but you can be sure he entered the fray hoping to fill his boots.
Wellington Silva – Almeria
A week after their 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid, Spanish side Almeria took on Celta Vigo and won 1-0.
But Gunners loanee Wellington Silva could not add to his 13 appearances so far this season, spending the entire match on the bench.
Jon Toral – Brentford
Spanish midfielder Jon Toral started Brentford’s match against Cardiff city on the bench, but he was introduced at half-time with the hosts 3-0 up. It was not all plain sailing after the interval but Toral’s side held on for a 3-2 victory.
Toral has now made 14 appearances this season although he is yet to play for a full 90 minutes.
Carl Jenkinson – West Ham United
Arsenal right-back Carl Jenkinson is enjoying a sterling season at West Ham United, and the Hammers continued their outstanding form as they overcame Leicester City 2-0 on Saturday.
The 22-year-old has now made 14 appearances for Sam Allardyce’s side and looks every inch a top flight full-back.
