Tottenham made it three wins in a week after a narrow 2-1 victory over Burnley at White Hart Lane this afternoon.
Harry Kane gave Tottenham the lead before Ashley Barnes rifled home a superb equaliser for the Clarets, only for Erik Lamela to curl home a beauty of a shot from long range to take Spurs to sixth place, just four points off the top four.
One of the standout performers was Argentine international winger Lamela, who scored his first Premier League goal for the club - almost 18 months after joining the club from Roma.
Lamela, 22, was signed to be Gareth Bale's replacement, but has so far failed to make an impact in North London, an opinion backed up by today's goal being his first in the league.
Yet today, Lamela tormented the Burnley defence, and his goal was eerily reminiscent of one Bale would've scored during his time at White Hart Lane.
Fans noted the similarity between the two players today, taking to Twitter to voice their delight with Lamela's display, suggesting that he is now getting better and better under Mauricio Pochettino.
Here are some of the reactions from Spurs fans on Twitter to Lamela's performance today.
Just back from Spurs.1st half was good. Lamela's best performance in the Prem for my money. 2nd half was poor. Could have been a draw. #COYS— John Doolan (@JohnDoolan1) December 20, 2014
Happy for Lamela he is working hard lately deserves credit #COYS— Declan (@spursdeco) December 20, 2014
Erik Lamela was brought in to ease the pain of Gareth Bale leaving. It took 16 months, but his winner today was Bale-esque. #COYS— Tim Vacek (@tim_vacek) December 20, 2014
I don't understand Lamela has a great game, gets MOTM and still gets slagged off! #COYS— Hotspur Coverage (@HotspurCoverage) December 20, 2014
