Stats: Leeds United a better side with Adryan or without?

Adryan

How important is Adryan to Leeds United?

As Leeds United prepare to face Nottingham Forest, head coach Neil Redfearn is said to be considering a new tactical approach.

Away from home the diamond midfield has failed to pay dividends, with Leeds accruing five points on their travels all season and losing their last 4-1 at Ipswich Town.

The scale of that defeat has prompted discussion about attempting to play less expansive football, with new assistant Steve Thompson adding upon arrival that the team need to learn how to grind out results.

One option Leeds have is to drop playmaker Adryan, who has been a firm fixture in the side of late, but could be seen as more of a luxury attacker. He was called out after the loss to Fulham a week ago by Redfearn who said he needs to add goals to his game.

If he is not doing that, then Redfearn is right to feel he may be offering less than he would like - and question whether Leeds may be better off without him, at least for this fixture at the City Ground.

The figures regarding Leeds with Adryan this season against the team without him, show mixed results.

Goals per gameGoals Conceded per gamePoints per gameAppearances
Leeds With Adryan 1.33 1.67 0.89 9
Leeds Without Adryan 1 1.33 1.25 12

While Leeds have been more productive from an attacking perspective with the Brazilian in the team, they also concede more goals per game.

The cumulative impact of both leads to Leeds picking up less than a point a game in matches he has played, as opposed to averaging 1.25 without.

While Adryan can't be held responsible for poor defending, as Leeds prepare to face a dangerous Forest side away from home, it may make sense that he is an unfortunate casualty of a tactical shift in an attempt to earn much-needed points.
