Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling was named the European Golden Boy of 2014 earlier today.
The prestigious award is given in each year to a young player adjudged to have been the best in Europe.
Sterling, who turned 20 earlier this month, has had a memorable 2014. The youngster was a key figure in Liverpool’s second-placed finish in the Premier League last season and was involved in England’s 2014 World Cup campaign in Brazil in the summer.
The Englishman has been in good form this season as well, and has been linked with a move to European champions Real Madrid next summer.
"It's a great achievement to win such an award,” Sterling told Liverpool’s official website. "It's a really happy feeling for me and my family, of course.
"Something I've always wanted to do is to work hard playing football and try to be recognised. I'm really grateful that people have shown me this recognition.
"It's down to hard work. I'm really happy that people are recognising that I'm trying to work hard and do my best for this football club. I'm really grateful for this award.”
Following the announcement, Liverpool fans took to social networking site Twitter to have their say. Below are the best reactions, including that of defender Jose Enrique.
