Aston Villa 1-1 Manchester United: Hosts hold out for impressive point

Villa Park

Aston Villa and Manchester United drew 1-1 at Villa Park on Saturday.

Aston Villa ensured Manchester United did not make it seven conescutive victories as Paul Lambert's side drew 1-1 with Louis van Gaal's men.

Christian Benteke put Villa ahead in the 18th minute and that was the score-line at the interval.

Van Gaal changed things up at half-time, shifting Michael Carrick from defence into his more familiar midfield position and replacing Darren Fletcher with Tyler Blackett.

Radamel Falcao, who had an impressive game following his injury absence, equalised for United eight minutes after the re-start but they had some more fine goalkeeping from David de Gea to thank for keeping them in the match.

That said, the visitors had more than enough chances to prolong their run but Villa's defence held firm and it is telling that both sides may look back on this match with disappointment.
