Andy Carroll on why he hopes his injury problems won't come back

The West Ham striker says a slight alteration in his approach should keep him fitter for longer.

West Ham United striker Andy Carroll says he has been strengthening his whole body since his most recent injury troubles, meaning there is less chance of any recurrence.

The Hammers forward has a chequered history when it comes to fitness trouble and spent a lot of last season out as a result.

Carroll has now returned, however, and hopes this will be the end of his injury problems.

“I’ve been strengthening my whole body, so hopefully that will stop any recurrence," the West Ham man told Sport Magazine.

"I spoke to the manager a lot when I was out injured and he said it’s just a case of carrying on the way I’ve been working.

"He was getting reports at the end of every week about how I was doing and where I was at in my recovery and then he’d chip in with what he wanted me to focus on.

"He’s obviously happy with how everything was going. And, now that I’m back, I’ve got to continue working hard to keep my fitness up.”

West Ham host Leicester City at 3pm later today.
