Allardyce: Why West Ham are better than my Bolton team in 2007

Sam Allardyce Press Conference 12/02/2014

The Hammers boss has been discussing the similarities and differences between both sides.

Sam Allardyce says his current West Ham United team is better than the Bolton side he managed in 2006-07.

Allardyce enjoyed tremendous success at Bolton Wanderers but seems to be going a step further with West Ham this season - the east London side currently sit fourth in the Premier League.

And the 60-year-old says the key difference between both teams is that the Hammers have far more strength in depth.

"We were flying at Bolton at that time and were very close to getting where none of us expected," the West Ham boss told reporters on Friday.

"The prospects we have now is that this is a bigger squad than that one and has more strength in depth than this one. It has not quite got the experience but we have a lot of strength in depth and in the deeper end of the squad we have a lot of good players to step in when needed.

"That was not the case at Bolton. We had a strong 14 or 15 but nothing more than that. That is why it never lasted at Bolton, sadly."
